Tailgating FAQ

Permit Parking & Tailgating: FAQ

When do lots open for tailgating?Untitled-3
The Department’s standard parking lot opening times are 8:00 am for all games.
I’m not a donor. Where can I tailgate?
There are several options for those wishing to park in close proximity to Memorial Stadium on a single-game basis. There are seven on-campus garages available for game day parking. Most of these garages are free with the exception of the Maryland Ave. Garage located at the corner of Tiger/Maryland Ave. and Hospital Drive, and the new Parking Structure #7, located at the corner of Monk Drive and Virginia Ave. The fee for these two garages is $25 per game. For those wishing to park in open-air parking lots, there is parking available in the small lot to the immediate south of Lot R on Research Park Drive, as well as in the Dalton Parking Lot located to the north of Lot R on Research Park Drive. These lots will fill quickly and are available on a first come, first served basis for a fee of $25.

Both the on-campus garages as well as the two open-air parking lots are reserved for passenger vehicles only. RVs and Buses will not be allowed to park in these areas. For more information on RV/Bus Parking, click here.On game days, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the Missouri State Highway Patrol prohibit parking on the shoulder of either side of Providence Rd, from Stadium Blvd south to Reactor Field. Cones are placed on the prohibited areas to facilitate pedestrian walkways to the stadium on Providence Road. Finally, in general, lots north of Rollins Ave. and east of College Ave. are available to the general public for tailgating. These lots are not controlled by the Athletic Deparment, and no public restroom facilities are available.

When is the Tiger Walk?
Tiger Walk – when the football team arrives at the Mizzou Athletic Training Complex and walks across the Pedestrian Bridge and down the south tunnel to its locker room – occurs two hours before kickoff.
Can I park in the Truman Veterans Hospital lot? When does it open? How much does it cost?
While this lot is designated as “Family-Friendly”, the Athletic Department does not control this lot; it is a private lot run by the VA Hospital, and funds go to that organization. The VA Hospital lot on the corner of Stadium Blvd. and Monk Drive is monitored as a alcohol-free zone and is meant to prevent the presence of open containers.
What is the size restriction policy for items brought into Memorial Stadium? Why was it implemented?
It was recommended for security measures and fan comfort that the size of items being brought into Faurot Field not exceed 18″ x 16″ x 9″. Eighteen inches is the average seat width at Faurot Field. Mizzou Athletics must discourage the use of oversized chairback seats as they can often impose on other fans’ seat widths sitting nearby.
What is the gameday tent policy?
  • Tents should not exceed 10’ x 10’ and should be placed immediately in front of or behind your vehicle so as to not impede traffic flow.
  • Tents will only be allowed in parking lots (and adjacent grass areas) from those with parking passes in those respective lots. In other words, fans may not erect tents in lots in which they do not purchase a parking pass.
  • All parking lots at MU are student parking lots until the morning of the game. In addition, as game day approaches the Athletic Department works diligently to prepare the lots for our 60,000+ anticipated guests each Saturday (including mowing, clean-up, temporary restroom placement, etc.). These practices have been impeded by advance tent set-up in previous seasons. Tents may not be set up in advance of game day and not until the lots open on Saturday.
  • Parking spaces and tent locations are first-come, first-served for those holding the proper parking pass hangtags in each lot once the lots open on game days, not before.
  • All donor parking lots are now secured (i.e. blocked off) on Fridays beginning at 7pm. Cars are not allowed in the lots before the designated Saturday opening times after this time. Cars that are left in the lots overnight on Fridays will be towed. RV’s are the only exceptions and are allowed in designated pass-holder lots beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Fridays.
Why did Mizzou develop a plan for responsible tailgating?
Tailgating and picnicking before Mizzou athletic events has enjoyed increasing popularity over the last several years and we anticipate that it will continue to grow in the future. Increased participation has led to more safety concerns and damage to the campus. The plan for responsible tailgating was developed to help ensure that the game day experience remains friendly, fun, safe and family-oriented activities celebrating a day of athletic competition.
What are Open Access sites?
Open Access Sites are any tailgating areas that are outside of the 15-feet distance from designated parking lots and are not tied to parking privileges. Tailgating is not permitted in these areas.
What kinds of safety concerns relate to tailgating?
With the increasing number of fans enjoying tailgating activities on game day, there are increasing concerns about pedestrian safety, fire safety, sanitation, and the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages.
What steps should I take in setting up my tent/canopy?
Tents and canopies (should not exceed 10’ x 10’) should be anchored appropriately (e.g., sandbags, water barrels, stakes.) Unanchored tents/canopies easily can blow over and present a safety hazard as well as causing damage to property. Please help ensure that tailgating and picnicking remain friendly, fun, safe and family-oriented activities for Mizzou Tigers of all ages.
May I use a generator?
Generators are allowed in public parking lots and permit parking lots, but not in University Campus Parking garages.
If I am not allowed to use a generator, what are my options?
We suggest marine batteries or inverters.
What size pit/grill may I use?
Large pits are not allowed in tailgating areas. As a general rule, if it takes more than 2 people to carry it in, it will be too large for the area. Our goal is to have as many Mizzou fans as possible enjoying the unique atmosphere of tailgating. The rationale for the rule regarding the size of pits/grills is as follows:

  • The size and weight of the rigs has caused damage to both the greenscape and trees, particularly in inclement weather.
  • The movement of large rigs in and out of green spaces causes a risk to pedestrians in the area, whether the rigs are moved by individuals or University employees. ** Grills are not permitted in parking garages on campus.
How should I dispose of hot coals?
Hot coals must be doused and properly disposed of in specially designated Coal Bins to prevent fires. Fires built on the ground and open fire pit devices are prohibited.
Where can people with disabilities park and still have easy access to Faurot Field?
Individuals with disabilities have two options for parking within close proximity to Faurot Field:Lot B – Disability Friendly Parking is available on a season long basis to individuals who are members of the Tiger Scholarship Fund. For more information on season long accessible parking contact the Tiger Scholarship Fund at (573) 882-0704.Lot M – ADA Compliant Accessible Parking is available on a single game basis. Parking passes for this lot will not be sold in advance and are available on a first come, first served basis for the cost of $25. Permanent restroom facilities are located in the Hearnes Center and Memorial Stadium offers bathroom facilities outside gate 2E and 2W up until 15 minutes before gates open. Portable toilets are located throughout the Sports Park.
Whom do I contact if I have questions or concerns about tailgating?
Please direct all feedback to the fan feedback forum on mutigers.com.
What happens if I qualify for a parking lot based on my points, but choose not to make the required donation?
The TSF performs an audit based on parking pass donation requirements. If the parking pass is paid for and has been allocated, but the donation has not been paid, the TSF will hold the pass until the donation requirement has been met. Letters are sent out notifying parking pass recipients that there is a balance due.
If I parked in a specific lot last year, will I automatically get it again this year?
Not necessarily, since the Priority Points required for each lot vary each year. It is best not to assume that you qualify for the same lot.
Can I donate more to the TSF to receive better parking?
Every donation made to the TSF helps your Priority Points total, but this does not guarantee that you will receive your requested parking pass. Please note that if you donate more than your seats and/or parking pass require to increase your Priority Points or are unsatisfied with your parking and/or seat assignment, your donation is non-refundable. Starting in January 2011, any donation made to the University of Missouri cannot be refunded due to IRS tax regulations.
How can I keep my tailgating group together?
Tailgating with other friends and family members is easier if you’re in the same lot. However, we do not know who is in your tailgating group. You can request to have your parking pass in the same lot as other members of your group, but this may move you to a lesser priority lot. The person in your group with the fewest points will be used to determine the location of the parking passes for your entire group.
The lot I requested has empty parking spaces on football game days, but I didn’t qualify for it. Why didn’t I get a pass in this lot?
We do not over-allocate the lots, but we do sell the exact number of parking passes to correspond with the number of parking stalls in each lot. There are donors who do not use their parking passes for every game, which is why some lots have empty spaces on game days.
If I ask for two parking passes in the same lot, why do I have to double the number of priority points required for that lot (and triple the number of points for three passes)?
We require double the number of football priority points for a request of two passes in the same lot to ensure that we are fair to other donors who are purchasing one pass in that lot.
Why doesn’t my parking pass count as a donation?
Parking permits are $135 for the 2013 season, regardless of which lot is selected or allocated. This does not count as a donation because money collected from parking permits goes toward improving security and traffic flow, providing more courtesy golf cart shuttles, parking lot surface improvements, post-game cleanup of lots, and offering more temporary restroom facilities.
Do I get a pass for each game?
Yes, each parking pass is a booklet of passes with one for each game.
Are the parking pass stubs required?
Yes, the parking attendant will tear the stub off of your pass as you enter the lot. Once your permit is stubbed, you may not leave and re-enter the lot with your vehicle.
How much space can I use when tailgating?
The vehicle and the associated tailgating activities may only occupy one parking space. Green spaces within 15 feet of parking lots are reserved for fans parking in those lots. Tents and canopies are allowed, as long as they do not exceed 10′ x 10′; they must be in front of or behind your vehicle and may not obstruct sidewalks, drive lanes, pedestrian walkways or other parking spaces. For more information on tailgating, click here.
Can I use an additional parking space for my tent or trailer as long as I have an additional parking permit?
Yes. You may use an additional parking space only if you have an additional parking permit.
If I have basketball season tickets, do I get football points for this?
No. Your football priority points and basketball priority points accumulate separately. Your years of consecutive purchase of season football ticket points go into your football priority points. Your basketball season ticket purchase points are added into your basketball points.
Why do you use football priority points to determine parking passes, ticket locations, etc…?
Priority points are the best way to determine fan loyalty, and the fairest way to rank our donors and season ticket holders.
